The trip was very short - just five days - and access to the residents of the displaced persons camps was very tightly controlled by the soldiers guarding the inhabitants. How open would they, or could they, be? How to tell a story that reveals something of a people’s character in very tough circumstances, and yet doesn’t trade on the depressing images and stories that seem to be the bulk of what we in the west are fed?
Another film that I’m really happy to have had a hand in - your perception of the Darfur people won’t be the same after you get to know them a little better.
